Second Annual KETCH Champions’ Golf Tournament...Driving the HERO in you!

Great food, service, prizes, even great weather! KETCH hosted its Second Annual KETCH Champions’ Golf Tournament…Driving the HERO in you, on Mon., May 16, at the Tallgrass Country Club in Wichita. Thirty-six four-person teams filled the field, 12 more teams than last year. The second annual tournament raised $20,000 to support the services KETCH provides to over 1,100 Kansans with disabilities each year.

The day began at 11 a.m. with registration. Golfers were delighted when they received their tee-bags and “KETCH” embroidered wind vests donated by CBIZ and Dick Dameron; embroidering was donated by US Logo. Most golfers found their way to the putting contest to test their skill at qualifying them for the putting finals. Eighteen players qualified. The grand prize winner was Brian Hatcher of the Wichita Distributors team.

The delicious lunch for all the golfers and volunteers was catered and served by Carrabba’s Italian Grill. At 1 p.m., players began their round of golf with beautiful spring weather. Special contests were held throughout the course including an opportunity to win a car on a hole in one sponsored by Saturn of Wichita. Other contests included the longest drive and the longest putt for men and women and a closest to the pin. The day was filled with excitement and praises.

“We had positive feedback from lots of golfers at the end of the day,” said Kim Roskam, director of development and community relations and coordinator of the event. “They especially enjoyed the food and prizes. Our golf committee works hard all year to get really great prizes.”

The evening concluded with dinner and the awards ceremony where KETCH gave out the winning team prizes (several of which were sponsored by Taco Bell), lots of door prizes, and the announcement of the recipient of the seven-night Royal Caribbean cruise for two. The name drawn was Dr. Ken Wedel, a member of Salina #718. This year’s first place winner is the Hale Mortgage team (Janet Ast, Kyle Ast, Christian O’Hara and Kim O’Hara). The team with the lowest gross score is the Dandurand Drug team (Slade Adams, Matthew Perry, Greg Prideaux, and Phil Ruffin, Jr,).

Plans for next year’s event are underway. If you would like information about sponsoring the event, please contact Tim Wasinger at 316-383-8884 or twasinger@ketch.org.

Special thanks to our major sponsors…
